Neighborhood Gift Idea #7: Magic Fudge Sauce (let’s be honest…this may be just the perfect gift to give yourself!)

With a sundae that looks this good…you might just need to keep this gift for yourself! My mom sent me a recipe (you might say she is my ultimate everyday food storage fanatic ;) ) where you can make your OWN Magic Shell…you know that really delicious chocolate sauce that hardens on your ice cream. Except this is better…it’s like a mix between hot fudge and magic shell and takes only minutes to make. And of course….it uses food storage; powdered milk to be exact.  And you really can’t get much better than that.  For a gift I fill a frosting canister 3/4 the way full (about one recipe’s worth) and use my really cute Magic Fudge Sauce label.  And, as always, because I love you all so much I’m sharing it with all of you!  So if you want to download the label to print on your own computer, click HERE.  (The recipe is below the packaged product picture)

Magic Fudge Sauce

1 Cup (6 ounces) Semisweet Chocolate Chips
1/4 Cup Butter, cubed
3 Tbs. Evaporated Milk (1 Tbs. Dry Powdered Milk + 3 Tbs. Water)

Vanilla Ice Cream
1/2 Cup Sliced Almonds (opt.)

In a heavy saucepan, combine chocolate chips, butter and milk. Cook and stir over low heat until chips are melted and mixture is smooth. Serve warm over ice Cream (Sauce will harden.) Sprinkle with almonds. Refrigerate any leftovers. Sauce can be reheated in the microwave. Yield: about 1 Cup.

Neighborhood Gift Idea #6: Magic Santa Cookies

Front of Santa Cookie Mix

Back of Santa Cookie Mix

I love this idea! It’s so simple and such a great gift to give (the gift of NO MESS!…and a little food storage ;) These magic Santa cookies are just the Cookie Clay Dough recipe in a jar.  You’ll remember that this recipe is so great because it doesn’t require any rolling, flouring of countertops, and NO cookie cutters.  The dough is the consistency of Play Doh and kids can just shape their dough however they would like.  Such a great activity for Santa cookies and for Mom!  When I do these I usually use half whole wheat flour and half all-purpose flour along with powdered eggs.  When you’re putting the ingredients in the jar it is important that you separate the sugars and put them in a little baggy (like we did for the dry ingredients of the pancake mix)  I also made you labels to use and I’ve separated them into Front (cute Santa Graphic) and Back (Instructions) so you can use ANY bottle around the house.  If you need to refresh on how to cut fabric for the tops of any jar or how to do the little baggies, click HERE for the how-to videos.  For reference, in the bottles above I used a peanut butter jar (on the left) and an applesauce jar (on the right).  You know I’m a big believer in using things around the house that a) you’ve already purchased and would normally throw away and b) you’re recycling and going GREEN!

Santa Cookie Labels

Now that you’re sold on the idea….go ahead and download the CUTE labels I made for you by clicking HERE.

Before we get to the giveaway…I wanted to share a really GREAT blog on Gingerbread that Marilee sent to me.  Gingerbread is a GREAT thing to disguise wheat flour in because 1) it’s dark 2) has A LOT of molasses in it for moisture and 3) great spices to cover any wheat taste you may be worried about.  So just to prove that you can take ANY recipe and add in food storage visit, this blog and use whole wheat flour for the regular flour.  She also has patterns, the recipe, and my favorite…HOW TO VIDEOS!…aren’t they so cute?
