WHAT DO YOU MEAN GROCERY STORE KNOCK OFFS?

I’m talking making what you commonly buy at the store AT HOME for LESS MONEY all while using YOUR FOOD STORAGE! If you saw my last Studio 5 appearance where I showed how to make your own Pop Tarts and fruit leather using food storage, you’ll know what I’m talking about!

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?

Because I want you to save money and have more control over what you’re family eats…all while using food storage and eating better! I think most things in the store have been made that way for so long that we look at it like it’s magic and the only way we can do it is if we buy it….not true! I have to say I’m totally hooked on figuring out how to make what we commonly buy in the store at home for less money AND using our food storage.

UM….ARE YOU SURE IT WILL TASTE GOOD?

When ever I make something from scratch I always think “Oh, this is how this is supposed to TASTE!” I’ve been surprised over and over again at how much better things taste when I make them. Why? Well, there are a couple of reasons 1) I have more control over the ingredients-which means I control the amount of salt, sugar, etc. and 2) it’s F-R-E-S-H-who knows how long that food product has sat around on the shelves of the manufacturers and on the shelves of the grocery store AND on the shelves of your home…that’s a lot of sitting around.

BUT ISN’T COOKING FROM SCRATCH HARDER AND WON’T IT TAKE LONGER?

Well you know me, I’m busy just like you! As much as I’d LOVE to, I can’t spend all day in the kitchen and when we use food storage we can save some time and skip a few steps. Don’t worry, you know the recipes I use are easy, fool-proof, and delicious!

REALLY, YOU DO THIS? DO YOU HAVE ANY EXAMPLES?

Yep, I really do! If you don’t believe me check some of these past posts…

I love this idea! It’s so simple and such a great gift to give (the gift of NO MESS!…and a little food storage These magic Santa cookies are just the Cookie Clay Dough recipe in a jar. You’ll remember that this recipe is so great because it doesn’t require any rolling, flouring of countertops, and NO cookie cutters. The dough is the consistency of Play Doh and kids can just shape their dough however they would like. Such a great activity for Santa cookies and for Mom! When I do these I usually use half whole wheat flour and half all-purpose flour along with powdered eggs. When you’re putting the ingredients in the jar it is important that you separate the sugars and put them in a little baggy (like we did for the dry ingredients of the pancake mix) I also made you labels to use and I’ve separated them into Front (cute Santa Graphic) and Back (Instructions) so you can use ANY bottle around the house. If you need to refresh on how to cut fabric for the tops of any jar or how to do the little baggies, click HERE for the how-to videos. For reference, in the bottles above I used a peanut butter jar (on the left) and an applesauce jar (on the right). You know I’m a big believer in using things around the house that a) you’ve already purchased and would normally throw away and b) you’re recycling and going GREEN!

Santa Cookie Labels

Now that you’re sold on the idea….go ahead and download the CUTE labels I made for you by clicking HERE.

Tell your friends and family…it’s going to be a HUGE food storage party! If you’ve every tried to serve milk shakes as a fun treat with dinner then you know the problem with them. You have a SERIOUS timing issue because they need to be served RIGHT AWAY or they get soupie and then the whole experience is ruined! So why not make the shakes ahead of time-and from food storage? Sounds good to you? Well it sounded good to me. This recipe was delicious and LOW-CALORIE! Since it is made out of pudding and not ice cream! This milk shake is actually kind of healthy! It just takes pudding (which can be the of the sugar-free variety), milk (and of course, we’re using powdered milk), and fruit. EXCELLENT!

This egg dish I thought was such a unique way to serve eggs (and powdered eggs for that matter) plus it is really, really easy and delicious! I just love the recipes that have the gourmet flare, make no mess, are easy to make AND use food storage!!! The other fun thing about these is that you can eat them with your hands! How fun!
